Spreading Kindness, Helping Victims
At age 11, Aedyn, after being bullied, decided he wanted to do something to stop it and to help others who have been bullied. After expressing this desire to his family, his mother Karen helped him create Aedyn’s Backpack Club is a 501c3 nonprofit organization of kindness while assisting victims and survivors of bullying and abuse.

Parents you CAN help
- Talk with your child: Do not ignore the problem and hope it will Go away.
- Contact the school immediately: Work with the teachers and administrators. They can help.
- Encourage peaceful solutions: Be a good role model. Do not coach your child in becoming violent.
- Empathize with your child: Let them know that it’s not their fault and that you’re glad he or she had the courage to talk to you.
- Work together to find peaceful solutions: Ask your child what he or she thinks can be done to help.
- Contact law enforcement: If aggressive behavior is criminal and appears to be escalating.
- Be persistent: If the bullying continues or escalates contact the appropriate people again. Don’t give up.
What to do if you are being bullied
- Report
Report any bullying to your parents, teachers and guidance counselors immediately.
- Violence is NOT the answer
If you get into a fight with your bully, you could be suspended or arrested. Sometimes schools discipline students involved, even in fights they didn’t start.
- Try to discourage
Try to discourage bullies if possible. Try to talk it out and request them to stop.
- Write down
Write down what happened. Who was involved when and where it occurred and if there were any witnesses.
- Find support
Whether in the classroom at home or in your community, by talking about your experiences.
- Don’t be afraid
Talk to a counselor about what you’ve experienced.
- Don’t be a bystander
If you see someone being bullied, tell a school official right away.
Always remember, bullying is not your fault.
